Police Nab 36-Year-Old Over Alleged Defilement of 4-Year-Old in Mkpanak

Uyo — The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 36-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged defilement of a four-year-old child in Mkpanak Village, Ibeno Local Government Area.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Command disclosed that the disturbing incident came to light on February 24, 2026, when the child’s mother reported noticing a suspicious discharge while bathing her daughter. Upon careful questioning, the minor allegedly identified an adult male who she said could be recognised if seen.

Police authorities immediately issued a medical examination form, and the child was taken for urgent medical attention.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives intensified surveillance within the community and, in the early hours of March 1, 2026, arrested one Joseph Mbake, a Cameroonian national and fisherman residing in Mkpanak Village, alongside others for investigation.
An identification parade conducted in line with established procedures reportedly led to the victim identifying the suspect.

Preliminary findings indicate that the alleged offence occurred on February 14, 2026.The Command strongly condemned all forms of sexual abuse, particularly against minors, and reassured residents of its firm commitment to safeguarding vulnerable members of society.

Parents and guardians were urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police formation as investigations continue.
