The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has opened a full-scale investigation into a violent attack on a herder in Etoi village, Uyo Local Government Area, qwhich led to the killing of one of his cows.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2025, when unknown assailants reportedly conspired to assault the herder and slaughtered one of his cattle. A distress call alerted operatives, who swiftly moved to the scene.
On arrival, the suspects abandoned six sacks of cow meat and fled into the bush. The herder, from Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State, escaped with the rest of his herd.
Prince Ahmed Aliyu, Secretary to the Cattle Dealers Association of Akwa Ibom State, later confirmed the cow belonged to Alhaji Siddiki Makaka, also from Jada, Adamawa. The recovered meat has since been returned to the owner.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, said discreet investigations are underway to track down the perpetrators. She assured that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property while urging members of the public with useful information to come forward.
