Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have neutralised a suspected bandit and recovered 33 rustled cattle during a swift operation in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The breakthrough followed an attack by suspected Lakurawa bandits who stormed a farmhouse along the Kamba–Kangiwa Road on April 3, making away with livestock.
Confirming the development in Birnin Kebbi, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said security operatives, acting on a distress call, immediately mobilised in collaboration with troops from the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operating Base in Kamba.
The joint team trailed the fleeing suspects and engaged them in a gun duel, forcing the bandits to abandon the stolen cattle.
During the encounter, one of the suspects was neutralised, while another escaped with gunshot injuries. All 33 cows were successfully recovered and returned to their rightful owner, with no casualties recorded among security personnel.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, commended the operatives for their prompt response and effective collaboration, describing the operation as a major boost in the fight against rural banditry.
He assured residents that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, reiterating the Command’s resolve to rid the state of criminal elements.
