In a bold response to a midnight distress call, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command foiled a violent armed robbery attempt in the early hours of Saturday, July 26, 2025, neutralizing one suspect and recovering a firearm.
The incident occurred around 2:25 a.m. at 1745 Hotel Road in the Mbiokporo area, where armed criminals were reported to be on the rampage. Acting on the orders of Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, a rapid response team engaged the suspects in a fierce gun battle.
One of the hoodlums sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange and was rushed to the hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.
Items recovered at the scene include: One locally made pistol, One expended cartridge and Two live cartridges
A manhunt has been launched for the fleeing accomplices, while the police continue to comb the area to recover more weapons.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, urged members of the public to volunteer useful information that could aid the ongoing investigation and arrest of the remaining suspects.
