Police Foil Midnight Armed Robbery in Ikot Ekpene, Arrest Suspect as Accomplice Escapes

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber after a midnight attack on two residents of Abiakpo Ntak Inyang village, Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.

The incident occurred around 12:12 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, when two assailants armed with a jackknife and a machete launched an attack on unsuspecting victims. A concerned citizen promptly raised an alarm, drawing the swift response of police operatives.

In a coordinated operation, officers stormed the scene and successfully apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Ubong Victor Elijah, a native of Ikwen village in Obot Akara LGA, who currently resides in Ikot Obong Edong. His accomplice, known only as Wisdom, managed to escape and is still on the run.

Recovered from the suspect were two jackknives and a black face mask, believed to have been used during the attempted robbery. The victims, who sustained multiple stab wounds, were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment.

During interrogation, the arrested suspect confessed to his role in the crime. Police say efforts are ongoing to track down his fleeing partner.

Spokesperson for the Command, DSP Timfon John, assured the public that investigations are in top gear and further updates will be communicated as events unfold.
