CP Azare Orders Manhunt for Fleeing Suspects
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has recorded yet another operational success, following the recovery of a suspected stolen vehicle loaded with firearms, ammunition, and other incriminating items during a late-night operation in Uyo.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, the operation took place at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday, November 7, when a police surveillance team on routine stop-and-search duty intercepted a black Toyota Camry car, registration number LND 360 DC, along Mbak Itam III by Nassarawa Market.
The vehicle, occupied by four individuals, aroused suspicion, but before the officers could engage them, the occupants abruptly abandoned the car and fled into a nearby bush under the cover of darkness.
A thorough search of the abandoned car led to the discovery of a cache of dangerous weapons and items, including two locally made pistols, four live cartridges, two Tecno Android phones, one battle axe, one machete, one battery charger, two black head gears, and a set of vehicle number plates (BKS 705 DD).
The Toyota Camry has since been impounded as an exhibit to assist ongoing investigations.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the swift response and professionalism of the patrol team, describing the recovery as another testament to the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.
He further directed a discreet and comprehensive investigation to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects, assuring that no effort will be spared in bringing them to justice.
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command remains unwavering in its resolve to ensure the safety of lives and property. We are determined to make the state uninhabitable for criminals,” CP Azare declared.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely and useful information that could assist the police in their efforts to combat crime.
The recovered exhibits are currently in police custody as investigations intensify to determine the source of the vehicle and its possible link to other criminal cases within and outside the state.
