Police Foil Aid Theft Ring: Donated Food for Malnourished Children Diverted, Woman Arrested in Katsina

Katsina state government

Katsina State Police Command has smashed a suspected aid diversion racket after intercepting eight bags of fortified cereal donated for malnourished children and internally displaced persons in conflict-hit Borno State.

The consignment of Super Cereal Maizoya, popularly called Yar Kwamuso, was intercepted on August 7, 2025, following an intelligence tip. The cereal, donated by the government in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), is specially formulated for children above three years and vulnerable adults.

Police confirmed the arrest of Hajiya Jamila Nura, 35, of Daura LGA, who confessed to receiving the aid supplies from Alhaji Kamaluddeen of Maiduguri and reselling them to a buyer in Jibia LGA, Katsina State.

“This act is a sabotage of government and humanitarian efforts to combat malnutrition. We call on the public to desist from buying or selling donated relief items,” said DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, Police Public Relations Officer.

Investigations are ongoing to expose the network behind the illegal trade.
