The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a widely circulating document claiming that officers attached to high-profile individuals had been ordered to immediately return to base, describing the memo as a deliberate fabrication aimed at misleading the public.
The viral document, purportedly signed by one “CSP Suleiman Abdullahi” of the 50 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron in Abuja, was declared fake after thorough verification. The Force clarified that no officer by that name serves in the squadron and that PMF units do not have Admin Officers of CSP rank—further proving the memo’s fraudulent nature.
In a statement issued on Friday, Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the forged memo was crafted to create confusion and distort the ongoing implementation of President Tinubu’s directive on the withdrawal of police officers from VIP duties.
Hundeyin emphasized that the official withdrawal process has indeed commenced, but stressed that it is unfolding in a structured, phased, and professionally managed manner to avoid any security gaps that criminals could exploit.
“Our priority remains the safety and security of all Nigerians,” he said, assuring that adequate measures are in place to maintain stability throughout the transition.
The Police urged the public to rely solely on verified communication channels and to avoid circulating unconfirmed documents capable of undermining trust in national security institutions.
The statement reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of lives and property.
