In a dramatic turn of events, the Nigeria Police have declared a British national, Andrew Wynne, also known as Andrew Povich or Drew Povey, wanted for allegedly masterminding a coup plot against President Tinibu.
Wynne is accused of sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria, building a network of sleeper cells aimed at toppling the government and plunging the nation into chaos.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Wynne, who posed as a bookshop owner at Labour House, Abuja, and operated under the guise of running “STARS of Nations Schools,” used these as fronts for his subversive activities.
Police revealed that Wynne funneled billions of naira to his Nigerian collaborators, encouraging them to incite violence and target police and military installations, hoping to trigger international condemnation of the Nigerian government.
The police have also declared Lucky Ehis Obiyan, identified as Wynne’s local coordinator, wanted. A global manhunt for both suspects has been launched.
In a related development, ten individuals allegedly involved in the plot have been arraigned in court, facing charges of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime.
The ongoing investigation has also extended to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), as the police seek to uncover the extent of Wynne’s infiltration and influence within the organization. The NLC leadership has been questioned to clarify their connection to Wynne, who allegedly used the Union’s premises as part of his cover.
Police assured the public that all efforts are being made to bring the suspects to justice and safeguard Nigeria’s democracy from any unlawful attempts to destabilize the government.
