The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed as fake and mischievous a viral message alleging the mass movement of Boko Haram fighters into parts of Southern and North-Central Nigeria, including Lagos, Ilorin, and Rivers State, and warning residents about purported “dangerous key holders” fitted with tracking devices.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Command said the circulating alert is entirely fabricated, noting that no intelligence from any credible security agency supports the claim. The Police described the message as a deliberate attempt to stir fear, panic, and needless tension among citizens.
With Akwa Ibom sharing proximity with some of the states mentioned in the false advisory, the Command said it found it important to reassure the public.
Residents were urged to disregard the rumour, remain calm, and avoid sharing unverified information capable of causing anxiety within the state. The Police stressed that security architecture across all Local Government Areas remains solid, with patrols, surveillance teams, tactical units, and community policing structures fully active.
The Command also encouraged citizens to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police formation or security agency, emphasizing that public cooperation remains crucial to maintaining peace.
