— Says EFCC Operation Misreported, Urges Media to Uphold Professionalism

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating in the media claiming that armed men invaded a students’ lodge in Ikot Ekpene, abducted 15 students, and carted away valuables.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the Police clarified that no student was abducted and that the incident in question was a lawful operation conducted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Uyo Zonal Office.

According to the Police, the Command had received a distress call in the early hours of October 24, 2025, about a suspected armed robbery at Ikot Uboh Village, Ikot Ekpene. Officers were immediately deployed to the area but upon arrival, discovered that the operatives were from the EFCC carrying out an authorized operation.

“The persons taken away were arrested by the EFCC and not kidnapped as falsely reported,” the statement read.
