POLICE CRUSH ROBBERY GANG IN AKWA IBOM, RECOVER GUNS, MACHETES, GENERATORS

In a major breakthrough against violent crime, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismantled a notorious three-man armed robbery syndicate, recovering a cache of weapons and stolen items.

According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operation followed credible intelligence that led to the arrest of two suspects on Friday, November 7, 2025, at about 8:00 p.m. The duo — identified as Akan Udo, 40, from Ikot Edem Udo Village, and Namso Monday, 20, from Ikot Umo Essien Odoro Ikot Village — were apprehended at a native doctor’s residence in Ikot Ineme Village, where they were receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments.

The statement further revealed that the native doctor, believed to be complicit in the criminal activities, is currently on the run. Police have launched a manhunt to bring him to justice.

A third suspect, 40-year-old Mbata Udo of Ikot Ukpong Offiong Village, was later arrested following an extensive investigation linking him to the gang’s operations.

A subsequent search of the suspects’ hideouts led to the recovery of several dangerous weapons and stolen property, including:

One locally made pistol, One locally made revolver pistol,Sixteen machetes,Six mobile phones,Two big generators,One battle axe,One plier, and other incriminating items.

The suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their criminal network.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring a crime-free Akwa Ibom State.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, assuring that the police will continue to pursue criminals until peace and safety are firmly restored across the state.
