POLICE BUST VILLAGE HEAD: AK-47 Recovered in Mbo Local Government Area

In a major crackdown on illegal arms, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old village head and recovered an AK-47 rifle in Mbo Local Government Area.

The suspect, identified as Chief Edet, Village Head of Asik Ubofa Fishing Settlement in Effiat Clan, was apprehended following credible intelligence linking him to unlawful possession of firearms.

Acting swiftly on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, operatives stormed the community on March 24, 2026, where they recovered one AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines during a coordinated operation.

Police spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed that the suspect was arrested without resistance and is currently in custody as investigations intensify.

Authorities say efforts are underway to trace the source of the weapon, uncover possible accomplices, and ensure those involved face prosecution.

The Command reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on illegal arms, warning that anyone in possession of such weapons should surrender them or face decisive legal action.

Police also hailed residents for providing timely intelligence, urging continued cooperation as security agencies intensify operations to rid the state of criminal elements.
