The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has smashed a notorious gang behind persistent vandalism and theft at the Akwa Ibom State Water Company, arresting three suspects and recovering stolen property.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives swooped on Brooks Street, Uyo, on August 18, where two suspects, Itoro Moses David and Patrick Effiom, were caught red-handed stealing armored cables.
Their arrest triggered further investigations, which led to the capture of a third suspect, Edidiong Edet Edet, on August 21. Police described him as a notorious member of the vandalism and robbery ring.
The stolen cables were recovered, and the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation. Police say more arrests are imminent as the crackdown on the syndicate continues.
Spokesperson DSP Timfon John assured residents that the command remains committed to flushing out criminal gangs threatening public utilities. The suspects, he said, will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
