The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old student of the University of Jos for allegedly killing and secretly burying his colleague inside a shallow grave in his room at Rusau village, Jos North Local Government Area.
According to reports, the suspect, identified as David Nanpon Timmap, a 300-level student of the institution, brutally attacked and matcheted 22-year-old Peter Mata Mafurai to death before burying him inside his residence.
Sources from the university’s security unit confirmed the shocking incident on Sunday, revealing that a distress call was received around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Divisional Police Officer of Laranto Division promptly led a team to the scene, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Further investigation uncovered that the victim’s body had been buried in a shallow grave dug by the suspect within his room. The remains were later exhumed and deposited at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Police authorities have confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to determine the motive behind the gruesome killing.
