The Kano State Police Command has arrested nine suspected armed robbers and recovered a stolen vehicle, assorted firearms, and other dangerous weapons during a series of operations across the state.
According to a report by Punch, the suspects were apprehended following a deadly robbery incident at Unguwar Wambai and Dorayi Babba Quarters in Kano, where they allegedly broke into a residence around 2 a.m. and carted away valuables, including a Toyota Yaris, cash amounting to ₦3.7 million, and mobile phones.
During the attack, the robbers reportedly assaulted a female victim, inflicting severe injuries.
The police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said one suspect was arrested at the scene, while eight others were later captured through coordinated intelligence-led operations in Kano and Kaduna States.
Recovered items from the suspects include a double-barrel gun with 18 live cartridges, two English-made pistols, sharp weapons such as cutlasses and knives, and an operational Toyota Corolla LE vehicle.
Kiyawa added that the suspects confessed to their involvement in multiple armed robberies across Kano, Abuja, and Kaduna, while investigations are ongoing to uncover the source of the firearms.
The Commissioner of Police, Hussaini Gumel, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the fight against violent crimes under Operation Kukan Kura, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
This development comes amid intensified security operations in Kano, during which over 100 suspects were arrested in September alone for various offences, including armed robbery, drug trafficking, and car theft.
