PENGASSAN Orders Gas, Crude Supply Cut to Dangote Refinery Over Sack of Union Members

Katsina state government

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has directed its members to immediately halt gas and crude oil supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, escalating tensions between the union and the management of Africa’s biggest refinery.

In a strongly worded letter signed by its General Secretary, Comrade Lumumba Ighotemu Okugbawa, the union accused the refinery of unjustly terminating the employment of workers who exercised their constitutional right to join the union.

“The Management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has disengaged our members in reaction to their decision to be unionized. Rather than engage with us meaningfully, they resorted to misinformation and propaganda to justify this illegality,” the letter stated.

The directive ordered the immediate shutdown of crude oil supply valves to the refinery, stoppage of loading operations for vessels, and the suspension of all gas supply via the Nigerian Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC).

“All chairmen are to report progress on the implementation of this directive. Injury to one, injury to all,” PENGASSAN emphasized.

The move signals a major showdown that could disrupt refinery operations and deepen uncertainties in Nigeria’s fragile petroleum supply chain.
