The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a major step toward the 2027 general elections, zoning its presidential candidacy to the South while retaining the party chairmanship in the North.
At its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Monday, 25th August 2025, the party ratified the appointment of Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum as the substantive National Chairman. Damagum will lead the PDP until the National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The zoning decision is expected to shape the party’s strategy ahead of the polls, setting the stage for intense political maneuvering as the South prepares to present its flagbearer.
