The battle for control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Tuesday as the Abdulrahman Mohammed–led faction stormed and took over the Wadata Plaza national headquarters ahead of the party’s 103rd Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee meetings.
By early morning, the usually busy headquarters had transformed into a fortress, with security operatives flooding the premises and barricading entrances. Our correspondent, Timothy Yusuf, reports that the entire surroundings of the PDP secretariat were placed under tight surveillance as tensions within the party reached new heights.
Senator Samuel Anyanwu, National Secretary of the Abdulrahman-led faction, told reporters that the heavy security presence was a preventive measure. He insisted that it was necessary “to avert any breakdown of law and order” as rival blocs within the opposition party brace for what could become a decisive showdown.
Meanwhile, the Kabiru Turaki–led National Working Committee (NWC), expected to hold its own meeting at the same venue, was conspicuously absent. As of press time, the faction had yet to arrive at the secretariat, heightening speculation about internal alignments and the next moves in the deepening leadership tussle.
With both factions claiming legitimacy and the party’s top decision-making bodies scheduled to convene, Wadata House has become the epicentre of a political storm that could shape the future of the PDP in the coming days.
