The Sokoto State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has called on All Progressive Congress (APC) led administration in the state to intensify efforts on executing impactful projects.
This is contain in a statement issued by party’s publicly secretary, Malam Hassan Sahabi, on Thursday in Sokoto.
Hassan advised APC led government to implement policies that would cushion peoples hardships against concentrating on bogus projects.
He alleged that the state government direction had demonstrated a gross lack of concern for peoples plights as they face divers economic challenges.
” Most of communities in the state are living in peril and constant terror of bandits.
” High percentage of projects awarded were misplaced of priority, citizens need more attention and concern on security.
” Commiting more resources to dealing with banditry in Eastern parts of Sokoto and other areas of the state ravaged by insecurity is desirable, ” Sahabi said.
He argued that the recent interview by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Bello Danchadi, where he tried to mitigate the expenditure of N1.2 billion on the repairs of 25 boreholes along with recent fencing streets project were in futility.
Sahabi noted that the contradictory explanations by Gov. Ahmad Aliyu and the Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Nura Tabgaza, aired differently were still unresolved.
” In the interview content, Danchadi ascribed the crisis as “a slip of tongue” by his principal and project was tripartite intervention without resorting to memorandum documents or side backings.
” Because of the circulated issue, Danchadi ought to have provided relevant documented evidences of the true status of the boreholes project which include; contract award papers, MOU, specific locations and costs breakdown of the boreholes in question, ‘ Sahabi said.
According to him, Danchadi, simply repeated the unsubstantiated claim that the project is a tripartite intervention involving the state and federal governments and the World Bank.
Sahabi added that besides boreholes issue remain unresolved, streets fencing came up and also received wide public criticism.
He stressing the need for State Assembly, relevant concerned agencies and institutions to turn their attention to the state procurement laws as well as exigent to avert a possible administrative tragedy.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Aliyu, Malam Abubakar Bawa, had earlier in a statement described PDP’s accusations as orchestrated campaign is targeted at stopping the constructive engagement with the good people of Sokoto state.
” Ordinarily, we wouldn’t have honoured PDP with a response but for the fact that the Gov. Aliyu administration is responsible to the people of Sokoto state who overwhelmingly voted him to lead them, we offer this explanation.
” First, the Gov. Aliyu government did not award any contract worth N30 billion for “street fence” in Sokoto state as maliciously claimed by PDP in its tale of lies against our dear state.
” The government also has no plans to award any “street fence” contract valued at N30 billion, he said.
According to him, the ongoing urban development was one of the focal points of Gov. Aliyu’s administration and awarded a contract valued at N800 million which covers the much needed and necessary wire-fencing of selected major roads/highways within the metropolis
” The project was primarily awarded to deter people, especially school children, from running across major roads and getting knocked down by speeding vehicles.
” Prior to this, Sokoto state capital had recorded preventable deaths from accidents involving vehicles and people running across major roads.
” However, the provision of this preventive facilities across major roads in the state, has led to reduced rate of accidents involving pedestrians and animals as road crossings are now sequestered to designated points, ” Abubakar said.
Speaking also, State APC chairman, Alhaji Isa Sadiq-Achida, cautioned people against misleading comments
because people have overwhelmingly rejected it in the 2023 governorship election and preferred APC.
Sadiq-Achida stressed that APC government strives to ensure people friendly projects and policies manifested the n road construction, water supply and electricity, agricultural, healthcare and education, transportation and others.
