The Katsina State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has begun distributing relief materials to more than 600 residents of Kankia Local Government Area who were displaced after last week’s heavy rainfall triggered flooding.

At the flag-off of the exercise, SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Hajiya Binta Hussaini Dangani, said the intervention was carried out on the directive of Governor Dikko Umar Radda to bring immediate assistance to the affected families.

“This gesture is to reduce the suffering of those impacted by the floods and to show them that government is with them during this trying moment,” she said.

The distributed items included rice, maize, millet, guinea corn, mattresses, mats, blankets, groundnut oil, salt, and seasoning cubes.

Present at the occasion were the Deputy Chairman of Kankia Local Government, SEMA officials, representatives of the District Head of Kankia, local councilors, and community members who witnessed the handover of the support items.
