The Katsina State Government has said that over 3 million children would be immunized in the state
Executive Secretary , Katsina Sate Primary Health Care Development Agency KSPHDA, Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya stated this at the end of a One Day 2025 polio campaign and routine immunization media dialogue held on Tuesday at Al – Hujrat suit Katsina.
According to the Executive Secretary, the dialogue was organized by the United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF ) in collaboration with the Katsina State Primary Health Care Development Agency and other partners.
Speaking further, Dr. Shamsuddeen Yahaya said that the role of the media could not be overemphazied in disseminating and creating awareness to the public and communities on the importance of immunization.
He added that the State Primary Health Care Development Agency had trained and retrained its staff to address issues of polio virus and strengthening routine immunization in the state.
Dr. Yahaya said that 3,700 independent monitors were engaged to monitor this year’s exercise from academia, NYSC, retired health workers and teachers to monitor the team, stressing that the State Primary Health Care Development Agency had engaged with local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), traditional institutions and religious leaders for the success of the exercise.
He explained that the State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with UNICEF and partners were working in 1,636 health facilities in the state to provide logistics support in taking the vaccine from the state store to all 34 local government areas and wards in the state.
In his remarks, the UNICE Field Officer, Kano , represented by the UNICEF Nutrition Manager Karan Singh said that the aim of media dialogue was to solicit support of the media in raising awareness and mobilization to parents, caregivers, communities, stakeholders and the public about polio vaccination campaign which Nigeria had scheduled to implement across the North from 24 – 30 April, 2025.
He stated that Federal Government, UNICEF and partners were committed to eradicating polio in Nigeria.
“He said that if people could strengthen their routine immunization , they could realize a future free from diseases like polio, cervical cancer and measles to guarantee a future where no child would die from illness that could be prevented”.
Singh called on media to deploy their various medium to share information and encourage parents and caregivers to bring out their children massively for vaccination.
On her part, the Katsina State Immunization Officer, Sahura Muhammad said that Katsina was among the states axis of intractable transmission of polio virus 2.
She appealed to the media to enlighten the public, communities and caregivers to have their maximum cooperation to achieve 100% coverage.
