A fresh wave of political momentum is building in Katsina State as more than 250 former aspirants from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their support for Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa’s fast-growing political coalition, Sabuwar Tafiya.
The declaration, which took place at Dr. Inuwa’s campaign office along Mani Road in the heart of Katsina, marked a significant political shift. Among the defectors were 25 former aspirants for the House of Representatives, 10 contenders for local government chairmanship positions, and over 220 ex-councillorship hopefuls drawn from all 34 local government areas in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Hon. Jamilu Yahaya Kankara, a former PDP House of Reps aspirant, described their exit from the party as inevitable due to what he called widespread marginalization and betrayal.
“We were used and dumped,” Kankara said. “Our qualifications, ideas, and passion for public service were ignored. Instead, the PDP leadership was consumed by personal ambition and manipulation. That’s why we’re aligning with Sabuwar Tafiya, a movement that puts the people first.”
Welcoming the new entrants, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa—former Secretary to the State Government and convener of Sabuwar Tafiya—commended their bold decision and commitment to real change.
“This is not just another political ceremony. You are now critical stakeholders in shaping our vision and strategy at both the state and national levels,” he assured. “We must build a political culture rooted in sincerity, unity, and service—not self-interest, which has wrecked our institutions and stunted Nigeria’s development.”
The high-profile endorsement was attended by key allies of the coalition, including Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita, Hon. Salisu Lawal Uli, Hajiya Amina Mani, and Ambassador Yakubu Muhammad, all of whom reiterated their confidence in the movement’s direction.
This mass defection represents a powerful statement in the run-up to the 2027 elections and is widely seen as a major boost to Sabuwar Tafiya’s growing influence across Katsina State. Political observers believe the development could redefine the balance of power in the state’s political landscape.
With the entrance of these new members, Sabuwar Tafiya appears poised to reshape the conversation around grassroots politics, internal democracy, and credible leadership in Katsina.
