Security forces have rescued 19-year-old Hamdiyya Sidi Sharif, a fierce critic of insecurity in Sokoto State, during a bush-combing patrol along the Lambar Bakura–Yar Geda Highway in Bakura Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

Hamdiyya, known for boldly confronting state authorities over rampant banditry in eastern Sokoto, was freed at around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, by operatives conducting routine patrols.

A police source told Zagazola Makama that the young activist was found alone in the forest after being abducted by armed men. She was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital, where she is said to be responding to treatment.

Security officials have vowed to intensify the patrol operations to rescue more victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The rescue of Hamdiyya marks a significant victory in the ongoing fight against banditry in the North West, where thousands have been displaced and entire communities deserted.
