Opposition parties in Borno State have applauded Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for committing ₦2.5 billion annually to sponsor indigenes to the Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, describing the move as a bold leap from post-insurgency recovery to economic reinvention.
The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Borno Chapter, in a Thursday statement, said the investment in aviation and technical education is a strategic blueprint to groom homegrown engineers, aviation managers and innovators who will power the state’s long-term growth.
IPAC noted that rebuilding Borno requires more than physical reconstruction, stressing that elite skills, sector-specific expertise and institutional competence are critical to sustainable recovery.
While endorsing the initiative, the opposition body urged transparency, merit-based selection and clear performance benchmarks to guarantee that the ₦2.5bn annual investment delivers measurable and equitable results.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to constructive opposition, pledging support for policies that secure Borno’s future while holding government accountable for prudent use of public funds.
