In the ongoing Operation Lake Sanity 2, troops from Sector 2 of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), stationed in Bagasola, Chad, successfully conducted an ambush on May 13, 2024.
This mission, carried out on Litri Island located on the Chad-Nigeria border in Central Lake Chad, resulted in the elimination of a terrorist.
Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines, an unexploded ordnance device, a mobile phone, and various personal items, dealing a significant blow to terrorist operations in the area.
Additionally, on May 11, 2024, troops from the 19 Brigade, Sector 3 of the MNJTF, intercepted a Boko Haram logistics movement in the Burwarti area of Kukawa LGA, Borno State, Nigeria.
The ambush led to the confiscation of two motorcycles, a Baofeng radio, four bags of millet, and other miscellaneous items.
Following this, on May 12, 2024, a clearance operation from Burwarti to Daban Masara resulted in the interception of a civilian vehicle driven by Mr. Baba Ado, who was transporting passengers and empty baskets.
Located 6km east of Burwarti, Mr. Baba Ado, already on the 19 Brigade’s watch list, was detained for further investigation.
On May 13, 2024, the Nigerien Gendarmerie in Sector 4 of the MNJTF, based in Diffa, Niger Republic, seized petroleum products hidden within sacks of maize cereals.
This operation, conducted approximately 5km from the main road on the outskirts of Diffa town, disrupted an attempt to smuggle these products past security checkpoints.
These products were intended for terrorist groups operating in the Lake Chad Basin.These coordinated efforts by the MNJTF have significantly weakened the logistical and operational capabilities of terrorists in the region.
The MNJTF remains dedicated to eradicating terrorism and restoring peace and security in the Lake Chad Basin.
