In a moving salute to courage and service, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere has paid a courtesy visit to Wesley Tafida, a 106-year-old Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) and World War II veteran, at his residence in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The visit, rich with nostalgia and respect, offered a rare window into living history. RSM Tafida—who served as a courier during the Second World War—recounted vivid memories of duty, discipline and sacrifice from an era that shaped modern military tradition.
Despite his remarkable age, Tafida stunned visitors with his strength and composure, appearing far younger than his years—“more like an 80-year-old,” observers noted—his bearing a testament to a life forged by service.
Brigadier General Chidiebere praised the veteran’s resilience and legacy, describing him as a symbol of honour whose story continues to inspire today’s soldiers and the nation at large.
