Umuahia, Abia State – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday, commissioned a brand-new 30MVA power substation in Abia State, marking a significant leap forward in the state’s electricity infrastructure.

The project, hailed as a “game changer” by stakeholders, is expected to improve electricity supply and drive industrial growth across the region.

Speaking at the event, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, disclosed bold plans by his administration to purchase the Umuahia ringed fence network from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC). According to him, the move is aimed at ensuring stable power supply to the remaining eight Local Government Areas not currently covered by the Geometric Power project.

“Our vision is to achieve complete energy independence in Abia,” Otti declared. “We will not rest until every community has access to reliable electricity.”

The new substation and the proposed acquisition are part of Otti’s broader energy agenda to position Abia as a hub for investment and innovation in the Southeast.
