A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Nafisa Umar Hassan (KT/24A/1178, Batch A, Stream 1), has been lauded for her impactful community development project that supports 20 women poultry farmers in Katsina State.
The commendation was given by the Honorable Commissioner of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Prof. Ahmed Muhammad Bakori, during the launch of the empowerment initiative at KTARDA headquarters.
The project, a collaboration between Nafisa and the Katsina State Fadama Project, aims to boost poultry farming as a means of livelihood for women in the state.
Each of the 20 beneficiaries received 20-day-old chicks, a bag of feed, a drinker, a tray, and essential medication.
They also underwent a one-day training on best practices in poultry production, management, and market linkages.
Prof. Bakori praised Nafisa’s dedication, describing her efforts as exemplary, while the State Project Coordinator, Malam Mohammed Bello Bello, highlighted the alignment of the initiative with Fadama’s objectives. To ensure sustainability, the beneficiaries were organized into a Fadama User Group and registered with the cooperative department of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In addition to this project, Nafisa has executed other community-driven initiatives, including drilling a borehole in Dan Shirwa, Charanchi LGA; donating 50 patient mattresses each to primary healthcare centers in Kaita, Batagarawa, and Rimi LGAs; providing 100 school uniforms to students at Batagarawa Primary School; and installing streetlights at a Tsangaya School in Katsina.
In her remarks, Nafisa expressed gratitude to Katsina State Governor Malam Umaru Dikko Radda, PhD, CON, and various ministries for their support. She emphasized the need for continued government backing of corps members’ entrepreneurial projects to address the growing unemployment crisis in Nigeria.
The Katsina State NYSC Director, Alhaji Saidu Ibrahim, also praised Nafisa and urged corps members to emulate her commitment to community development.
This initiative highlights the transformative impact of grassroots efforts in empowering communities and promoting sustainable development.
