NWGF donates N50M to Sokoto families slain by bandits

The Northwest Governors’ Forum has donated the sum of 50 million naira to family members of Gidan Bawa village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State brutally killed by bandits recently.

The Chairman of the forum, Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State, announced the donation while at the Sokoto Government House to commiserate with the State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and also at the residence of Senator Aliyu magatakardar Bamako, representing Sokoto South at National Assembly, Abuja.

Governor Masari who was accompanied by his counterpart from Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stated that Governors from Northwest in conjunction with those from Plateau, Niger & Nasarawa are working with the Federal Government in coming up with strategies & solutions against insecurity which is already being implemented.

The Katsina Governor expressed optimism that the joint effort with the federal govt & the adoption of modern technology, banditry would be brought under control soon.

Masari also called on the federal legislators to stand up to their constitutional responsibilities by coming up with an enabling legislations that would adequately address the issues of insecurity in the country.

In the same vein, Governor Ganduje on his part lamented that “negligence of past leaders to utilize our forest in balancing the climate led the dominant Fulani to convert it as bandits hideout.”

According to him, reclaiming the forest now requires the use of modern technology in generating realistic data of the herders & Animals in their procession as exemplified by kano state govt in Falgore Forest.

In his remarks, Senator Aliyu Wamako while appreciating the gesture of the Northwest Governors Forum said there is the need to mobilize adequate security personnel to fight banditry to an end.

The senator also stressed that there is the need to organize a common forum of concern stakeholders to voice out the truth and suggest the appropriate actions in bringing to an end the insecurity menace in the country.
