The stage is set for the third edition of the Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria, a prestigious annual event celebrating the immense contributions of media professionals across the country. This year’s ceremony, scheduled for October 17th, 2024, at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, promises to be a landmark occasion.
According to a statement by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Otunba Gbenga Onayiga, the Governors of Katsina and Akwa Ibom States, Mallam Dikko Umar Radda, Ph.D, CON, and Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, have been chosen as the Special Guests of Honour for this year’s event. Their presence underscores the significance of the event as both governors are known for their appreciation of media’s role in democracy and governance.
Onayiga also announced that former Ogun State Governor and past award recipient, Aremo Segun Osoba, will serve as the Father of the Day, bringing his wealth of experience in both journalism and leadership to the event.
This year’s honourees include prominent figures who have shaped Nigerian journalism over the years. Among the esteemed names are former Akwa Ibom State Deputy Governor, Obong Moses Ekpo, MFR, Pa Felix Adenaike, Dr Ladan Salihu, Ms Comfort Obi, Dr Yemi Farounbi, Dr Haroun Adamu, Professor Tonnie Iredia, Professor Umar Pate, and Mrs Bisi Amagada.
Other media veterans set to receive recognition include Comrade Ini Ememobong, Mallam Yakub Mohammed, Mr Dan Agbese, Dr Eddie Iroh, Mr Lade Bonuola, Mr Nosa Igiebor, Mrs Toun Okewale Sonaiya, Mrs Comfort Umanah, HRH Eze Geo Anika, Mrs Aina Lewis, Chief Dare Babarinsa, Pa Jola Ogunlusi, and Usman Shuaibu Leman.
The Milestone Recognition of Media Icons in Nigeria, introduced by the National Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has grown into a much-anticipated event within media circles, honouring living legends who have contributed to the growth of the pen profession. Past recipients of the award include Pa Sam Amuka-Pemu, Prince Henry Odukomaya, Senator Chris Anyanwu, Alhaji Najeem Jimoh, Dr Danladi Bako, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, and Dr John Momoh.
The event will commence at 2 PM, offering an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of Nigeria’s media stalwarts and the indelible impact they have made on the nation’s journalism landscape.
