NUJ Katsina State Council Holds Special Lecture , Get Together to Mark 70th Anniversary

The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State Council has organized a special lecture and get together to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the union.

The event took Place at the Al- HaJAT Regency Suites in Katsina.

The event, themed “NUJ @70: A Historical Perspective,” was designed to bring together media professionals, stakeholders and Union members to reflect on the NUJ’s journey over the past seven decades, highlighting its contributions to press freedom, democracy and nation building.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman,NUJ katsina State Chapter, Comrade Tukur Hassan Dan Ali said that his administration would continue to promote journalistic integrity, professional development and unity among media practitioners in the state.

He noted that the event would keynote addresses, a retrospective of the Union’s milestones, and opportunities for members to engage in networking and dialogue aimed at strengthening the profession”

In his remarks, the National President, Nigerian Union of Journalists, represented by the Zonal Secretary of the Union, Abudulrazak Bello kaura said that NUJ at 70 was an opportunity for members to recommit themselves to the ideals upon which the Union was founded.

“We must rise to defend Press freedom, but we also guard against misinformation and unethical practices and commercialization truth he said.

He urges all journalists especially those reporting from conflict zones to reflect professional accuracy, balance and empathy in their work.

In his Remarks the katsina State Governor Represented by Commissioner of Information and Culture Bala salisu Zango said government of katsina State wishes every practice journalist in katsina happy 70 years Anniversary.

He stated that journalists had contributed immensely in nation building and democracy, adding that the Katsina State Government was ready to partner with the media to bring development”

He said that democracy would not have been possible in the country without the contributions of journalists , stressing that journalists should contribute their quota in ensuring the safety of the state through their reportage.

He called on journalists to give their own contribution by sensitizing the public to understand security challenges in katsina State.
