The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two men accused of vandalising high-tension cables in Dabaibayawa village, Batagarawa Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Umar Halilu and 35-year-old Abdullahi Salisu, both residents of Dabaibayawa, were allegedly caught after carting away a large quantity of high-tension wires and burnt cables on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
According to the Command, the duo confessed to the crime during interrogation, admitting that they were nabbed while attempting to convey the stolen items in bags to prospective buyers.
Commandant of Corps, Aminu Datti Ahmad, commended the synergy between NSCDC operatives and other security agencies in the successful arrest, stressing that the Command remains on 24-hour surveillance to clamp down on vandals, economic saboteurs, and other criminals threatening public safety.
“Vandals and thieves who tamper with critical infrastructure pose great danger to our socio-economic wellbeing. The NSCDC will not relent in fishing them out,” Ahmad warned.
He further appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant, especially during the rainy season when cases of vandalism are on the rise, and to continue providing credible intelligence to support security agencies.
The suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion of due process.
