The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Kano State Command, has arrested six suspected vandals allegedly involved in the illegal removal and theft of railway sleepers in Kiru Local Government Area.
Sources within the command disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence on their activities around railway infrastructure in the area.
The command said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to safeguard critical national assets and curb economic sabotage across Kano State.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had been tampering with railway components, removing sleepers believed to be intended for illegal sale.
Officials warned that vandalism of public infrastructure poses a serious threat to national development and public safety, stressing that such acts would not be tolerated.
The suspects are currently in custody and are expected to face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
