The Katsina State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has apprehended a staff member of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) over allegations of trespass, tampering with a prepaid meter, and theft in Tudun Wada Quarters, Daura Local Government Area.
The suspect, identified as Aliyu Muhammad, 38, of the Prepaid Meter Unit at KEDCO’s Daura Regional Office, was arrested by the NSCDC’s special surveillance team attached to the Daura Divisional Office under CSC Bashir Umar Fago.
According to the State Command Public Relations Officer, SC Buhari Hamisu, the suspect allegedly removed a prepaid meter from the residence of Alhaji Lawal Gadi on the evening of Thursday, January 16, 2025. The stolen meter was recovered as an exhibit, and the suspect has since confessed to the crime during investigation.
Commandant of Corps Aminu Datti Ahmad commended the swift action of his team, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to eliminating crimes that threaten Katsina State’s socio-economic well-being. “Vandals and economic saboteurs will find no safe haven in Katsina State. Our personnel remain on 24-hour surveillance to tackle such activities,” he said.
The suspect is currently undergoing further investigation and will be prosecuted. Commandant Ahmad extended his gratitude to the public for their cooperation and urged continued support in providing timely intelligence to aid in combating crime.
