In a major breakthrough, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Katsina State Command has successfully apprehended three suspected vandals involved in the theft of streetlight armoured cables across the state.
Under the decisive leadership of Commandant Jamilu A. Indabawa, the special Antivandal patrol team, led by CSC Musa Adam Usman, captured Hassan Suleiman (25), Kamaluddeen Shu’aibu alias “Dankaita” (22), and a 16-year-old suspect, Aliyu Yunusa, in separate sting operations.
The suspects, notorious for their role in a larger syndicate, confessed to their crimes, revealing a pattern of vandalizing public assets under the cover of darkness.
Hassan Suleiman and his accomplice, still at large, were caught red-handed at the scene, burning stolen cables.
Aliyu Yunusa, caught in transit with armoured cables in a tricycle, also admitted to his involvement in similar thefts.
Recovered from the suspects were vital exhibits, including burnt cables, a tricycle, and various tools used in their operations.
The State Commandant reiterated the Corps’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and urged citizens to remain vigilant, providing actionable intelligence to aid the NSCDC in curbing crime in Katsina State.
The suspects will be charged and prosecuted in due course, as the Command intensifies efforts to bring all members of this criminal syndicate to justice.
