A major security move ahead of the burial of Nigeria’s late former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina State Command, has deployed no fewer than 2,807 personnel to ensure watertight security across the state.
The deployment was disclosed by the State Commandant, Commandant of Corps Aminu Datti Ahmad fsf, MADM, FCAI, during a strategic meeting with senior officers at the State Command Headquarters in Katsina on Monday, July 14, 2025 — just a day after the former president’s passing.
President Buhari, aged 83, died on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. in a London hospital following a prolonged illness. His remains are expected to arrive in the country shortly for burial in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
Commandant Ahmad said the directive for comprehensive security coverage came from the NSCDC Commandant General, Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, OFR, who expressed deep grief over the loss of the elder statesman and ordered enhanced surveillance and protection before, during, and after the burial.
“This is a moment of national mourning. We must give the late president a peaceful and dignified final farewell. All operatives must remain professional, vigilant, and work in synergy with sister agencies,” Ahmad stressed.
The security arrangement includes strategic deployment in Daura, the late President’s hometown; Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, Katsina; and the palaces of the Emirs of Katsina and Daura. Sensitive locations across all 34 Local Government Areas of the state will also be under tight watch.
Both covert and overt operations have been activated, with directives given to Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Special Forces, OC Outposts, and others to coordinate patrols, intelligence gathering, and community engagement.
Commandant Ahmad urged personnel to carry out their duties with professionalism, dedication, and respect for the solemnity of the occasion, while also extending condolences to the Buhari family, the Katsina State Government, and Nigerians at large.
“We pray the Almighty Allah grants his soul eternal rest and rewards him with Aljannatul Firdaus,” he added solemnly.
The NSCDC assured citizens of its readiness to maintain peace and order during this period of national reflection and mourning.
