National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has demanded a public apology and retraction from Northern Star leader, Hajia Naja’atu Muhammad, over a TikTok video he described as “malicious and damaging.”
In the viral video, Hajia Muhammad accused Ribadu of hypocrisy, alleging that he now serves in President Bola Tinubu’s government despite previously criticizing him during his tenure as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Through his legal representatives, Ribadu insisted that the video has caused him “unquantifiable damage” and demanded an unreserved public apology published in five national dailies within seven days. Failure to comply, the NSA warned, would result in legal action seeking exemplary damages.
“Surely, the damage occasioned to our client by your deliberate but ill-advised action is unquantifiable. However, our client will be assuaged if you retract the said publication and tender an unreserved public apology to him in at least five national daily newspapers within seven days of receipt of this letter,” the legal notice stated.
Ribadu’s demand has sparked public debate, with some questioning the limits of free speech while others see it as a necessary step against misinformation.
