Katsina State witnessed a major breakthrough in its fight against banditry as notorious bandit kingpin Abu Radde and his fighters surrendered to security forces, releasing ten kidnapped victims as part of a peace accord brokered by security agencies and local authorities.
Intelligence sources revealed that Abu Radde, alongside key associates Audu Lankai, Ori, Gila, Adamu Gurbi, Nawagini, Umar Black, Margyal, and Aloda, approached security officials seeking reconciliation through non-kinetic means.
A high-level meeting convened at Kwari Village Primary School in Jibia Local Government Area saw stakeholders engage in peace talks with the armed group. Following negotiations, the bandits agreed to lay down their arms, signaling a commitment to ending hostilities in the region.
In a show of good faith, the gang handed over two AK-47 rifles to the military and unconditionally freed ten hostages, who were promptly taken to a general hospital for medical evaluation.
The repentant bandits pledged to release more captives and vowed to cease attacks on communities within the area.
Authorities reassured residents of continued security monitoring and intelligence operations to consolidate the gains of the peace initiative and ensure lasting stability in the region.
