The Northern Lawyers’ Forum has issued an ultimatum to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, demanding he reverse the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II within 48 hours.
The group, led by Director General Barr Umar Sadiq Abubakar, condemned the reinstatement as unconstitutional and contrary to Kano Emirate traditions.
At a press briefing in Abuja, Abubakar argued that Sanusi’s initial removal adhered to local laws and customs, warning that his reinstatement could trigger chaos and undermine the rule of law.
He accused Governor Yusuf of defying a Federal High Court ruling by relying on an injunction from the Kano State High Court, which Abubakar claimed undermines the judiciary’s hierarchy.
The lawyers warned they would pursue all necessary legal actions if the governor fails to comply, emphasizing their commitment to upholding the judiciary’s independence and integrity.
Group’s statement highlighted the governor’s breach of his oath to protect the law and warned against any actions that could compromise justice.
