Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar has assumed command as the 15th Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), succeeding Major General Waidi Shaibu.
This waa tbe statement was signed by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command, Operation Hadin Kai.
The official handover ceremony was held on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the Headquarters Theatre Command in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri. Major General Abubakar brings extensive operational, command, and instructional experience to his new role. His previous appointments include Commander of Sector 3 OPHK and the Multinational Joint Task Force in Monguno, General Officer Commanding 7 Division/Commander Sector 1 OPHK in Maiduguri, and General Officer Commanding 3 Division/Commander Operation Safe Haven. Until his new posting, he served as the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies at the National Defence College, Abuja .
In his farewell remarks, Major General Shaibu thanked officers and personnel for their support throughout his tenure, describing it as a period marked by challenging operations in terrorist strongholds. He called on the troops to remain professional and committed in honour of fallen comrades and to extend the same loyalty and cooperation to his successor.
The handover event featured the signing of official documents, an address to troops, and group photographs.
