…12th NEGF Meeting Holds in Jalingo, Next Session Set for Maiduguri
Jalingo – Governors of the North-East subregion have reaffirmed their collective resolve to tackle security, humanitarian, and infrastructural challenges confronting their states, as the North East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) concluded its 12th meeting on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Jalingo, Taraba State.
The meeting, chaired by Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, CON, mni, FNSE, brought together the Governors of Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe States, alongside their teams, to deliberate on pressing issues of regional concern.
In a communique issued at the end of the session, the Forum acknowledged the “appreciable success” of ongoing military operations against insurgency but lamented that the subregion remains burdened with humanitarian crises and broken infrastructure.
Key Highlights from the Communique:
Security & Humanitarian Challenges: While commending progress against insurgency, the Forum urged accelerated efforts to rebuild infrastructure and resettle displaced communities.
Flood Preparedness: With forecasts warning of impending floods, the Governors called for proactive steps, including sensitizing communities along floodplains and soliciting Federal Government and NEDC support to fix damaged infrastructure, especially bridges.
Agriculture & Food Security: Alarmed by soaring prices of farm inputs, the Forum warned of a looming food crisis. It pressed for increased subsidies and stronger support for dry-season farming.
Regional Economy: The Forum announced that the North East Trade Fair will hold in Maiduguri, Borno State, in December 2025, in partnership with NECCIMA, as part of efforts to boost subregional commerce.
Energy Access: Reaffirming its commitment to end energy poverty, the Forum directed its Committee on Power and Energy to produce an integrated North-East Power Masterplan, with emphasis on solar as a “low-hanging fruit.”
Education & Legacy Institutions: The Governors congratulated the University of Maiduguri on its golden jubilee and pledged support for its 50th anniversary celebration and Endowment Fund relaunch in November 2025.
The communique further disclosed that the 13th NEGF meeting will be hosted by Borno State in Maiduguri from 12th to 14th December 2025.
