NNPC Chief Advocates Energy Access for Nigeria’s Prosperity

During the Society of Petroleum Engineers Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum (SPE OLEF), the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Mele Kyari, highlighted the crucial role of energy access in Nigeria’s economic growth.

Kyari emphasized NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to developing infrastructure for oil and gas delivery, aiming to drive prosperity across the nation. This commitment includes significant investments in gas infrastructure to supply at least 8 billion cubic meters domestically.

Projects like the Obiafu/Obrikom/Oben (OB3) and Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipelines are part of NNPC Ltd.’s efforts to enhance the country’s gas supply network. Additionally, the company is expanding gas supply globally through initiatives like the NLNG Train 7 project.

Kyari called for leveraging Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for economic prosperity and emphasized the importance of bridging energy access gaps in electricity and clean cooking fuel.

Engr. Salahuddeen Tahir, Chairperson of SPE Nigeria Council, also stressed the critical role of energy in modern society, advocating for a diversified and sustainable energy transportation system.

The forum, commemorating Nigeria’s first commercial oil discovery in Oloibiri in 1956, aims to contribute to policy development in the oil and gas industry, showcasing the industry’s commitment to Nigeria’s energy future.
