NLC to Governors: You Can’t Dictate Minimum Wage

In a heated clash over Nigeria’s wage policies, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rebuffed Southern Governors’ Forum’s call for states to set their own minimum wages.

The Southern Governors’ Forum recently argued for state-determined wages, citing financial disparities.

In response, NLC’s Benson Upah condemned this as a threat to workers’ welfare and the national economy.

“The national minimum wage is a collective agreement ensuring a standard of living,” Upah stated, highlighting the inflexibility of allowing states to independently dictate wages.

The ongoing wage dispute remains unresolved, with President Tinubu consulting on the proposed adjustments.
