The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya to step down if he can’t meet the new N70,000 minimum wage.
Governor Yahaya, also Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, claimed the state can’t afford the wage during a meeting with labour leaders and civil society groups.
Benson Upah, NLC’s Head of Public Relations, challenged Yahaya to uphold his oath or resign.
This follows President Tinubu’s recent enactment of the Minimum Wage Act, setting N70,000 as the standard after extensive negotiations.
