NLC Orders Statewide Strike from December 1 Over Unpaid N70,000 Minimum Wage

Katsina state government

In a bold move, the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC has directed state councils to initiate an indefinite strike starting December 1, 2024, in states that are yet to fully implement the new N70,000 minimum wage

This directive follows months of mounting frustration among workers as the NLC demands compliance with the nationwide wage increase aimed at addressing the rising cost of living.

NLC President, Joe Ajaero, declared that the union is “left with no choice” as state governments continue to stall on the agreed payment, despite the economic pressures workers face daily.

The impending strike could bring essential services to a halt, as the NLC vows to mobilize workers across sectors until the new wage is enforced nationwide.
