The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) recently launched a targeted awareness campaign in Katsina State to address the serious risks associated with migrant smuggling.
This initiative, which took place across various community centers, motor parks, and places of worship, aimed to educate the public on the dangers of irregular migration and the need to join efforts in combating migrant smuggling.
Under the guidance of Katsina State Comptroller of Immigration, Mohammed Adamu Mahmoud, PCC, CNA, FCILRM, and with support from a delegation led by CIS Alkasim Inusa from Service Headquarters and CIS Haruna Suleiman Zakirai from the Jibia Border Command, the campaign saw an impactful turnout.
The event was inaugurated at the command’s headquarters in Katsina, with sensitization sessions held at key locations, including the palace of the Mallamawan Katsina (District Head of Batagarawa), the Central Motor Park, and the Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management.
Through these sessions, participants were informed about the grave dangers of migrant smuggling, which can result in kidnapping, organ harvesting, forced labor, and sexual exploitation.
NIS emphasized that irregular migration poses severe threats, often leading to death, abuse, and involvement in transnational crimes.
