…Three Personnel Killed as CG Nandap Orders Tactical Reinforcement

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed a deadly attack on its Bakin Ruwa Checkpoint, under the Tuga Border Patrol Formation in Kebbi State, after unidentified gunmen stormed the facility on Thursday night, killing three personnel and destroying operational assets.

In a statement released by the Service Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Akinlabi, the NIS said the armed assault occurred at about 10:00 p.m., catching officers on duty off guard as the attackers opened fire on the checkpoint. The incident, described as “deeply distressing and utterly condemnable,” resulted in the loss of three dedicated immigration operatives who were on active border security duty.

The attackers also vandalised operational facilities at the checkpoint, further compounding the damage and raising fresh concerns over the growing threats posed by criminal groups along key border corridors.

Reacting to the incident, the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, immediately ordered a tactical response aimed at strengthening the security architecture around the vulnerable axis. The measures directed by the CG include the deployment of reinforcements to the Tuga border belt, intensified joint operations with allied security agencies, and enhanced intelligence-gathering to track the perpetrators.

Nandap also mandated increased patrols across the Tuga corridor, emphasising the Service’s commitment to preventing further incursions and ensuring that the killers are swiftly apprehended.

“The Nigeria Immigration Service will not relent in defending the nation’s borders,” the statement affirmed, noting that the fallen officers will be honoured for their service and sacrifice.

The NIS appealed to residents of the affected area and the wider public to remain calm, cooperate fully with security agencies, and continue providing timely, credible information that could aid ongoing investigations and patrol operations.

As security reinforcements move into the area and joint forces intensify surveillance, the NIS assured Nigerians that the renewed coordination among security outfits will help restore stability along the border corridor and bring the perpetrators to justice.
