The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has foiled a suspected armed robbery attempt and arrested one suspect in a swift night operation along Abak Road, Uyo.
The dramatic intervention occurred at about 10:00 p.m. on February 9, 2026, when operatives on pin-down duty at a strategic nipping point observed three young men riding a motorcycle and acting suspiciously near a supermarket.
Acting promptly on reasonable suspicion and in line with proactive crime prevention strategies, the officers moved in to apprehend the trio. On sighting the Police, the suspects reportedly abandoned their items and took to their heels.
A rigorous manhunt followed, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, identified as 24-year-old Abasifreke Udo.
Recovered from the scene were a live cartridge, an Infinix Hot 50 Pro mobile phone, a red tank Kymstom motorcycle with registration number UNC-370-QG (Abia State), scissors, a torchlight, razors, and nylon materials suspected to be used for packaging crystal methamphetamine.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were allegedly preparing to carry out a criminal operation before the timely intervention of the Police disrupted their plan.
The Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing accomplices and recover additional incriminating exhibits. The arrested suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commending the alertness and professionalism of the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustained visibility policing, intelligence-led patrols, and proactive crime prevention across the state.
The Command warned criminal elements to steer clear of Akwa Ibom, declaring that security operatives remain vigilant and resolute in denying them any operational space.
Residents were also urged to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious movements to the Police.
