President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to return food items seized at border communities to their rightful owners, with the stipulation that the goods should be sold in Nigerian markets.
Customs Chief Adewale Adeniyi disclosed this during a meeting with residents from border areas at Kongolam and Mai’Adua border stations in Katsina.
Adeniyi explained that President Tinubu’s decision, although not strictly guided by legal guidelines, reflects his profound generosity toward Nigeria.
The Customs chief emphasized that the directive aims to benefit the Nigerian people, and strict monitoring will be in place to ensure compliance.
The returned food items are expected to re-enter Nigerian markets, contributing to local availability.
